Term 4 has started well with everyone coming back from the holidays refreshed and ready for the final term. We have started swimming at Bridge of Don Academy on Thursday mornings. We will be going swimming every week other than the final week of term. This is a great opportunity for the children to improve their swimming skills, a big thank you to our parent helpers and Mrs Gordon for coming along to help us.
We are starting this term with a novel study of ‘Bill’s New Frock’ written by Anne Fine. The book is about a young boy who wakes up one day to find he is now a girl. The class have been enjoying the book which is entertaining while also providing many opportunities for discussion around gender stereotypes.
This term we are going to be using Big Maths ‘Beat That’ challenges to improve mental maths. Each week we will have a test on the ‘learn its’ provided. We will also be studying measure, shape and symmetry throughout this term.
We have started a topic on solids, liquids and gases which will involve learning about the properties and particles of solids, liquids and gases. We will also be investigating changing states and discussing which changes are reversible and irreversible. In the second half of the term we will be starting the topic ‘The circle of life’. This will involve looking at inheritance, sorting living things and food chains.
Please ensure all children have PE kits, indoor shoes and water bottles in school and that they bring a swimming bag on Thursdays. PE takes place on a Wednesday with Mrs Begg. We will be visiting the library every Thursday and the children will have the opportunity to borrow books which they can either take home or read in school. Homework will continue to be given out on a Friday to be handed back in the following Thursday.
I hope everyone enjoys the final term in P4 and I am looking forward to meeting you all later in the term.
