Primary 2/3 Term 3 Newsletter

I hope you all had a great holiday season and a happy New Year. Thank you very much for the lovely gifts at the end of term – they were greatly appreciated!

The class have settled well into the new term and got back to work quickly. Thank you for all the hard work that has been put into practicing our Burns Poems at home!

Homework – Spelling words will continue to be issued on a Monday and spelling tests will take place on a Friday. Practicing your spellings at home will help ensure success in these. Numeracy homework will continue to be issued on a Monday and will focus on topics we have covered in class. In the next week Primary 2s will be issued with a maths addition workbook. I would ask that they complete one page a week, as this will help consolidate the work completed in class.

Literacy – In writing we will be working on poetry, with the class already writing their own acrostic poem on winter. We will also start to look at fictional writing and structuring our own stories. New sounds will continue to be introduced on a Monday and consolidated throughout the week.

Numeracy/Maths – In Primary 2 this term we will continue to consolidate our addition facts to 20 and look at subtraction within 20 and place value.  Primary 3 will continue consolidating place value and look at subtraction with bridging whilst also developing our recall of multiplication facts. In practical maths we will be focussing on time.

Topic – We have looked at our place in Scotland pinpointing Aberdeen on a map. We have also discussed the other cities in Scotland. We will focus on our local community and the jobs that are available within it. Art this term will link with our focus on Scotland.

Dates for your diary –

PE kits should be brought to school on a Monday. P.E with Mrs Begg will start again later in the term on a Monday. P.E will be taken by myself on a Tuesday.

Our trips to the school library will be on Friday mornings.

Kind regards,

Mr Gray
