Primary 5 Term 2

Welcome back to Primary 5, hopefully you have all had a relaxing October holiday.

Topic- How it Works
This term our topic is Science. In Primary 5 will be focusing on forces- Friction, Gravity, Air Resistance, Water Resistance and Buoyancy. This is a hands on topic, with lots of experiments for the children to get involved in. We will also be using this topic to incorporate parts of the curriculum such as Literacy and Numeracy. We will be learning how to write a scientific report and will be using our measuring and data handling skills throughout all of our experiments.

Events In Term 2
P4-7 Panto – Tuesday 19th December. Come and hear our songs to support the P7 show. Primary 5’s song is “In The Marketplace”.

The dress rehearsal for this will be on Monday 18th December. Primary 5 have been asked to wear blue t-shirts for both the performance and the dress rehearsal.

The Primary 1-7 Christmas Pantomime at the Art Centre (Beauty and the Beast) is on Wednesday 13th December.

The Primary 4/5 Party will take place on Wednesday the 20th December in the afternoon.

Primary 5 have some visitors coming in on a Tuesday afternoon to teach them percussion, a great opportunity for them to try some different musical instruments!

Class Reminders
PE – Primary 5 have PE every Wednesday 9.00-10.30 (Mrs Begg) and every second Thursday 14.00-15.00 (Miss Smart).

Reading- Reading will be taught on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon. It is important that reading books are brought in from home on these days.

Homework- Homework is given out on a Friday and is due back in on a Thursday.

Library– Children have the chance to bring back their library book and exchange it for a new one on Monday. They then have some silent reading time so please ensure that each child has a book available, either from home or from the school library.

Class Requirements
Each child was given a writing pencil at the beginning of the school term, however, regularly children are coming to school without anything to write with. We have limited resources in the school so if you could ensure your child is coming to school with the correct equipment each day it would be very helpful.

Children should be coming to school each day with a water bottle for the classroom. We have water fountains throughout the school where these can be filled up when need be.

Thank you to everyone who has given boxes of tissues to the class, they are coming in increasingly helpful in this cold weather!
